The original media for Dunstanburgh Castle by Kate Lycett is a combination of inks, gouache, acrylics and coloured pencil.
Although Kate Lycett, the artist, lives and works in Hebden Bridge, she loves to paint scenes from Northumberland. Additionally, her textile design background is always present in the way that she paints.
Kate sees patterns in everything; from hills adorned with houses and washing lines to stripes of brightly painted drain pipes. This is clearly reflected in her paintings and the way that Kate interprets what she sees.
Kate stitches lines of gold thread through the landscape of her prints and in addition, the gold leaf that she applies changes the surface of her pictures as the light of day changes. Moreover there are never people in her pictures but they are full of life, warmth and character.
